The Indore Duronto (Hindi:इन्दौर दुरन्तो, Marathi:इंदूर दूरनतो, Urdu:دورنتو اندور) is a superfast express train service offered by Western Railways division in Madhya Pradesh. It runs between Indore Junction BG railway station of Indore, the largest metro city and commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai Central railway station of Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra

Number and nomenclature

The number provided for the train is :

  • 12228 - From Indore to Mumbai
  • 12227 - From Mumbai to Indore

The name Duronto signifies the fastest non-stop train service offered by Indian railways between the metro cities of India.

Indore Duronto - The first non-stop AC train

Unlike other super fast trains, this train does not halt at any minor station, nor at any railway junction and provide point to point non-stop service for the passenger. It is already a success as running from both the sides the Second AC seats are already showing an RAC... the RAC/WL of 3A indore duronto will almost get cleared till the WL25 it is expceted, in 2A it can be cleared till WL5... As of now there is no Tatkal Quota in the train as it is yet to become popular similar to the elder sister Avantika Express...

Indore duronto is the first AC Duronto train service of Madhya Pradesh state.

Arrival and departure

The train covers the 829 km route in 13 hours and 5 minutes from Indore to Mumbai and in 12 hours from Mumbai to Indore. It has technical stops at Ujjain (2 mins) and Ratlam (10 mins) and Vadodara (15mins). But the passengers cannot board the train from these stations. The tickets are issued from Indore to Mumbai only.

As per the new schedule wef 01-07-2011 the Train leaves at 23.00 hrs from Indore every Friday and Sunday. It reaches Mumbai Central next day at 11.50 hrs. However most of the times in a few days train touches BCT by 11:45 am itself...

The Train from Mumbai to Indore leaves at 23.15 hrs. every Thursday and Saturday. It reaches Indore next day at 11.15 hrs.

Locomotives The Mumbai Indore Duronto is currently using Electric and Diesel Locomotives. When it starts from Mumbai it is hauled by the BL WCAM 2P till Vadodara which is used by almost the best superfast trains like Rajdhani Express, August Kranti Express, Jaipur Superfast Golden Temple Mail etc leaving the Mumbai Central and Nizamudin Garib Rath, Swaraj Express, Paschim Express leaving Bandra Terminus. Once the Train Reaches Vadodara at around 04.35 am presently the RTM shed WDM takes over till Indore as the Ujjain Indore track is not electrified yet... It is expected that once the ujjain-indore section becomes electrified it will be hauled by the WAP4 BRC shed from vadodara to Indore Jn BG which is proposed to happen from the month of Jan 2012 onwards.

While returning from Indore it uses the same loco which hauls it till indore that is the RTM shed WDM till Vadodara and then the BL WCAM 2P takes over till the BCT.

Coach composite

The Indore Duronto consists of 14 coaches including ONE AC-1, Two AC-2, Eight AC-3, One Pantry Car and Two Generator Cars of Alstom LHB design manufactured by the ICF. The t grain has rake sharing with the Jaipur Duronto Express... below is the Rake Sharing Schedule...

Average speed and frequency

The train runs on bi-weekly basis from Mumbai on Every Thursday and Saturday and from Indore on Every Friday and Sunday at an average commercial speed of 66.10 k.m./hour.
