Train Number 2961/2962 Avantika Express runs between
Indore Junction in the western part of India'sMadhya Pradesh state andMumbai Central (inMaharashtra ). This is the only superfast train connection between Indore and Mumbai. The train belongs to Western Railway. The train departs from Mumbai at 7:05PM and arrives at Indore the following day at 9:20AM. It departs Indore at 3:50PM and arrives at Mumbai Central the next morning at 6:35AM. The train runs seven days a week and is a popular choice of travel between Mumbai and Indore.For about a couple of years, in mid 1990s, the termination of train was changed from Mumbai Central to Bandra Terminus (A western Suburban terminus station). The order was reversed and from 1998 the train started going up to Mumbai Central.
The train is named "Avantika " as the train passes via "Ujjain" which was earlier known as "Avantikapuri" in
Sanskrit scriptures and it was under [Avanti Kingdom}.The train is hauled by RTM WDM2 from Indore to Ujjain (about 80 KM from Indore)From Ujjain, BRC WAP4 hauls it up to Surat and Wcam takes over.
