Mulla Idriz Gjilani

Mulla Idriz Gjilani (1901-1949) was a Kosovar Muslim preacher, master orator and freedom fighter. He was born in Velekinca, Gilan in the Ottoman Empire, (now Kosovo^[a]). The Gjilani family who have inhabited his birth region for centuries give their name to the town of Gnjilane in Kosovo.

a.	^ Kosovo is the subject of a territorial dispute between the Republic of Serbia and the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo. The latter declared independence on 17 February 2008, while Serbia claims it as part of its own sovereign territory. Its independence is recognised by 85 UN member states.
