Mr. Carpainter (カーペイターさん, Carpainter-san^?) is the evil cult leader of Happy Happy Village in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System video game EarthBound.^[1] Having knowledge of psychic thunder attacks for reasons unknown, his weakness is the Franklin Badge which can deflect all forms of lightning.^[2]

Summary

Starting out as a normal man, he has become possessed.^[3] Carpainter is responsible for kidnapping Paula (from Twoson), who becomes Ness' girlfriend in the game.^[1] Carpainter established the cult known as Happy Happyism after being impressed by the Evil Mani Mani statue.^[2] This unorthodox religion believes that happiness comes from painting everything blue.^[4] After being defeated, he abolishes his religion and returns to local obscurity.^[1][4]

The evil Mani Mani Statue was confiscated from Mr. Carpainter and handed over to Master Belch by Pokey.^[5] Geldegarde Monotoli would also acquire the statue from Pokey who became his business consulant along with his father Aloysius.^[5] Eventually, the statue was permanently in Moonside, an alternate world made out of parts of Fourside, destroying it in the real world as well.^[5]
