The school

Mounts Bay occupies five buildings: main building, art block, music/drama block, sports building and 'Qube'. The main building houses most of the departments, with some of the more creative subjects housed in exterior buildings. The newest building, known as the 'Qube' (or 'Cube') was primarily built to teach media, but is also used by many other subjects.

On the site there is also a prefect hut and the 'Dome', a ribbed, inflatable pvc dome that covers a concrete court divided into three sections, a tennis court, a multi court and four badminton courts. On one of the fields there is an astroturf cricket pitch, a hockey pitch, two rounders pitches, a 400m running track, a shot put circle, a javelin area, and a football pitch. On the other field (which is over the road from the school) there is a full sized rugby pitch. Currently, a 3G astropitch is being constructed on the main field, which is estimated for completion in Summer 2011.

At the bottom of the site there is a small woodland area (known as the 'copse') which encloses a small swamp. This area is often used for mountain biking and as a backdrop for media projects. Until recently was a thoroughfare for people getting into school from Heamoor. There is now a gate there after some vandalism took place.

History

The school used to be called Heamoor Secondary School, until it became a comprehensive school in 1980.
