Mount Monique

Mount Monique (69°45′S 75°30′W / 69.75°S 75.5°W / -69.75; -75.5) is a mountain, about 600 m high, with a prominent rocky north face and ice-covered south slopes, 3 nautical miles (6 km) west of Marion Nunataks on the north coast of Charcot Island. Discovered and roughly mapped on January 11, 1910, by the French Antarctic Expedition under Dr. Jean-Baptiste Charcot, and named by him in association with Marion Nunataks and Mount Martine after his daughter, Monique. Photographed from the air on February 9, 1947, by U.S. Navy Operation Highjump and mapped from these photos by Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in 1960.
