Mount Franklin (New Zealand)

Mount Franklin is the name of several mountains within New Zealand, all of them in the South Island.

Mount Franklin, Tasman

The northernmost -and highest - of New Zealand's Mounts Franklin is a 2,340 metres (7,680 ft) peak located 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south of Lake Rotoroa in the Nelson Lakes National Park. It is the highest peak in the Tasman Region, just two metres taller than the nearby Mount Travers.

Mount Franklin, Canterbury

The second tallest of the New Zealand mountains with this name is located 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) northeast of Arthur's Pass, and forms part of the ridge of the Southern Alps. As such, it is located close to the border between the Canterbury and West Coast Regions. Rising to a height of 2,145 metres (7,037 ft), mit is located within Arthur's Pass National Park.

Mount Franklin, Otago

The third of New Zealand's Mounts franklin is also within a national park - Mount Aspiring National Park. It is located in the Browning Range, overlooking the Okuru River, 20 kilometres (12 mi) northwest of Makarora, and rises to a height of 1,862 metres (6,109 ft).

Mount Franklin, Southland

A fourth peak called Mount Franklin is a dwarf compared to its namesakes. Located to the south of the Takitimu Range at the edge of the Southland Plains, this 418 metres (1,371 ft) promontory rises above the nearby town off Ohai.
