Moshe Taube (cantor)

Moshe Taubé (1927-), cantor and academic, holds aclaim as a musician. He was a popular concert performer in Israel in the 1950s and later became a successful recording artist in the United States, in addition to his primary career foci of cantoring and scholarship. Considered by some as the "last of the great cantors".[1]

Biography

Moshe Taube was born in Kraków, Poland, in 1927.[3]

His musical studies began there at a young age. A survivor of the Holocaust which claimed his mother and sister, he immigrated with his father to Israel.[4]

He immigrated to the United States in 1957, and studied music at Juilliard.[5]

In 1965, he became Cantor at Congregation Beth Shalom, in Pittsburgh.[6]

In 1971, he became Adjutant Professor of Music at Duquesne University.[7]
