Morton J. Marcus (economist)

Morton J. Marcus (born 1938) is an American economist. He is the former director of the Indiana Business Research Center of Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. He also writes a weekly column called Eye on the Pie, that is printed in more than thirty Midwestern newspapers. Eye on the Pie frequently employs satire or conversations with fictitious characters as devices to make a point.

Although many of his columns are focused on Indiana, the themes are universal: economic development, the role of government, and citizen involvement as consumers and voters. Marcus has published "Tightrope to Tomorrow" which links Social Security's future to education and productivity enhancements. The book contains cartoons and a running romantic side-story to make it more understandable by elected officials.

Marcus' wit has made him a popular speaker on economic issues for civic and business groups in all sections of the U.S.[1]
