That still unidentified comrade taught him the basics of 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube. Monir competed in the Rubik's Cube French Open organised by the World Cube Association and which took place in Paris the 15th and 16 March 2008. For his first competition, he took the Moroccan national record in 3x3x3 with his best time of 2:01.05. He immediately said in public after his record "I swear I'll will beat the 2 minutes barrier. For my country, my family and my friends".
