Monastery of Christ the Word

Monastery of Christ the Word

The Monastery of Christ the Word is a priory of the English Benedictine Congregation (EBC) located in Macheke, Zimbabwe, within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Harare. The monastery is a child house of Ampleforth Abbey, whose monks formed the community in 1996 at the invitation of Archbishop Chakaipa and his fellow Zimbabwean bishops, who were desirous of a monastic presence in their country.

Today, four monks of Ampleforth and one Zimbabwean novice belong to the monastic community, living according to the Rule of St. Benedict.
