Mochi are a community, found in North India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. They are the traditional shoemakers of South Asia.[2]

They are mainly Hindu Mochis, who converted to Islam during mid 14th to 16th century AD. The community was also involved in the manufacture of protective leather dresses for soldiers and as such were closely associated with army.

At present the major population of Muslim Mochi lives in Pakistan ( 3,361,000 ), in India ( 63,000 ), in Bangladesh ( 7,100 ) and in Nepal ( 50 )[1]
