It was created by the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in 2002 by bringing together over 2,000 artists, publishers, editors and enthusiasts.

History
The MoCCA Art Festival was held at New York’s historic Puck Building from 2002 - 2008. Since 2009 it has taken place at the 69th Regiment Armory.
The Klein Award, named after Lawrence Klein, founder of the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art, is awarded at the annual MoCCA Art Festival. Recipients of the Klein Award have been Jerry Robinson (2009), David Mazzucchelli (2010) and Al Jaffee (2011). The Klein Award was originally known as the MoCCA Art Festival Award. Recipients of the MoCCA Art Festival Award were Jules Feiffer (2002), Art Spiegelman (2003), Roz Chast (2004), Neal Adams (2005), Gahan Wilson (2006), Alison Bechdel (2007), and Bill Plympton (2008).
MoCCA hosted the comics industry's 2004 and 2005 Harvey Awards.[1][2]
Recognition
The MoCCA Art Festival was named "Best Small-Press Comics Nexus Anywhere" by The Village Voice.[3]
