Goldman, 1937[1][2]Gregory's Wolf (Canis lupus gregoryi), also known as Gregor's Red Wolf[3], the Mississippi Valley Wolf,[1], and sometimes as the Texas Red Wolf,[4] is a subspecies of the gray wolf, Canis lupus, that roams the regions in and around the lower Mississippi River basin. It is suspected to be the middle connecting species between the Red Wolf and the Florida Red Wolf.[1]
Physiology
Description
This subspecies is described as being larger than the Red Wolf, but more slender and tawny. Its coloring includes a combination of black, grey, and white, along with a large amount of cinnamon coloring along the back of its body and the top of its head.[1] It weighs around 60 to 70 lbs, on average.[5]
