History
Miss Earth Jamaica is the official preliminary of the international Miss Earth beauty pageant in Jamaica. The country was first represented in the Miss Earth 2005 by Juel Daisi Pollard, who was the first Miss Earth Jamaica titleholder.[1]
In March 2008, Carousel Productions licensed Posh Entertainment Productions Ltd to produce the national pageant and select a Jamaican representative for the Miss Earth pageant.[2] Simone Burke was crowned Miss Earth Jamaica 2008 by Jo-Anne Archbald from the Ministry of Information and Culture. She became the first Miss Earth Jamaica under the management of Posh Entertainment Productions.[3]
Beauties for a Cause
The pageant is designed to advance and support the cause of today's women who espouse an environmental agenda. Contestants are savvy, goal-oriented informed and environmentally aware. They are also committed to working with local and international groups (government and non-government) that are actively involved in environmental causes that exemplify the motto, 'Beauties for a Cause'.[4]
The winner of Miss Earth Jamaica becomes a goodwill ambassador and spokesperson for Jamaica in its environmental and tourist industries. The winner also works with environmental projects and educates the people on the three Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) which will contribute to ensuring that Jamaica remains an ecofriendly tourist destination.[2]
