Olenellus Olenellus thompsoni Scientific classification Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Arthropoda Class: Trilobita Order: Redlichiida Suborder: Olenellina Family: Olenellidae Genus: Olenellus Olenellus is a genus of trilobite that lived during the Early Cambrian. It is commonly found in areas of Europe and North America (more specimens have been found in the upper Midwest and in Texas). When it was first described, Olenellus was thought to represent the earliest trilobite, although Holmia (= Esmeraldina) rowei and Nevadia weeksi have since been shown to pre-date Olenellus.[1]
Olenellus is present in the Hardyston Quartzite in New Jersey.[2] It also may be found in the shale beds of the Kinzers Formation in Pennsylvania.[3][4]
