Milorad Pupovac (Donje Ceranje near Benkovac, Croatia; 5 November 1955[1]), is Croatian politician and linguist. He is member of Sabor and president of Serb National Council.

Education

He graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb. He is a PhD of linguistics and a professor at the University of Zagreb.

Political activity

He was one of leading members of Association for Yugoslav Democratic Initiative, and after that he is leader of League of Social Democrats and head of Social Democrat Alliance of Croatia - Social Democrat Alliance of Yugoslavia.[2] He was also a member of the Serb Democratic Party. He is founder of the Serbian Democratic Forum. At the beginning of 1995 he participates in founding of Independent Serb Party, and with founding of Action of Social Democrats of Croatia he is involved in activity of that party and as their representative he enters in Sabor after elections held in 1995. After that he founded a new party Independent Democratic Serb Party led by Vojislav Stanimirović. On the list of that party he was member of Parliament of Croatia for several times. For a shorter time he was president of the party, and today he is vice-president.

After request for renewal of monument in Srb which was destroyed during the Croatian War of Independence, Pupovac stated:[3]

Without five-pointed star [communist symbol] in heart there is no civility and justice in Croatia.

In November 2011 Pupovac announced that he will sue Republic of Croatia for arrest of Josip Boljkovac.[4] Boljkovac was arrested because of war crimes committed against civilians by Yugoslav Partisans in 1945.
