Mikolaj Jan Piskorski (born April 16, 1973 in Poland) is an Associate Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School. He is known for his research in the area of social networking and study of how companies can use viral technologies and social networks to become more agile and execute upon their strategies. Mikolaj teaches the second year elective course on Competing with Social Networks,[1] and was recently named one of the World’s Best 40 B-School Professors Under the Age of 40 by Poets & Quants.[2]
Education and career to date
Misiek Piskorski received both his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Cambridge where he studied Economics and Politics. He also received a masters in Sociology and a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Harvard University.[1]
After initially teaching at Stanford's Graduate School of Business, Misiek returned to Harvard in 2004 where he has taught classes such as Competing with Social Networks and Building and Sustaining Competitive Advantage to MBA students, along with several other classes in the executive education program.[1]
He has written HBS cases on a number of online businesses, including MySpace, Friendster, Meetup, LinkedIn, Zynga, mixi, adMob, eHarmony, Twitter, and Yelp. Misiek has also written several articles that have appeared in peer-reviewed publications such as Administrative Science Quarterly and Social Forces. He has also been cited by popular publications such as the New York Times, Business 2.0, and Investors Business Daily.[3]
