First Guaranty Bancshares (commonly known as (First Guaranty Bank or FGB) was founded in 1934 in Hammond, Louisiana, as Guaranty Bank & Trust Company.

In 2007 First Guaranty acquired First Community Holdings Corporation.[1] By 2009 First Guaranty had 20 branches. Although most prominent in Tangipahoa Parish, First Guaranty has branches scattered through south Louisiana and also several branches in northeastern Louisiana.[2]

After certain locations were spun off, in 2010 First Guaranty had 17 locations. As of 2010 June 30 First Guaranty's total assets were $1.0 billion, with net income equating to $6.2 million.[3]

Guaranty Bank Building in Hammond's Historic District, now a Paris Parker Aveda Salon owned by Neill Corporation. This was the location of First Guaranty Bank when it was Guaranty Bank & Trust Company.

The philosophy of First Guaranty is to concentrate on towns and small cities in selected markets. The president of First Guaranty is Michael Raymond Sharp.[4]
