Mike Sanders (Missouri politician)

Mike Sanders (born March 18, 1967) is a Democratic Party politician in Independence, Missouri who was a Jackson County, Missouri Prosecuting Attorney from 2002 to 2006 and since 2007 has been Jackson County executive.

Sanders was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He received a B.A. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

He joined the Army and rose to First Lieutenant in the Gulf War.[1]

He received a law degree from Ohio State University in 1994. He was an assistant Jackson County prosecutor from 1994 to 1997 when he entered private practice.

In 2002 he was elected prosecutor and was re-elected in 2004.

In 2006 he was elected Jackson County executive defeating Charles Wheeler.

Although living in Independence, he was floated as possible candidate for Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri in 2009 before ultimately announcing his decision to run for re-election as county executive.[2]
