Career
Mihkel and two partners formed the fledgling production entity in 1992 and it proceeded to continually grow in the music video arena winning more Much Music Video awards than all of its competitors and producing over 500 videos including hits from numerous A-list talent. Mihkel has had an unparalleled career of success in music video production. Today, Black Walk continues to expand as a feature film production company. Along with his business partner and president of the company Brigitte Kingsley, Mihkel oversees both the creative and business life of Black Walk. In addition to Mihkel's media ventures he also owns Harilaid Corp. a real estate and management company focused on environmentally conscious and diverse investments. The goal is to work with tenants, the community and business for profitable and sustainable growth.

Education
Mihkel started his education at Trinity College School, where he graduated in 1985. Currently he is a chairman of the TCS Alumni Association. He then went to Trinity College/University of Toronto where he got a BA in History in 1989. He then got his CPM from I.R.E.M.(Institute of Real Estate Management), and his FPI and CRF from R.E.I.C. (The Real Estate Institute of Canada). He also wrote two books.

Mihkel's surname is derived from his family's ancestral home in Harilaid Estonia.
Activism
Mihkel also is an active environmentalist who owns a self sustainable farm, as well as running an investment real estate business focused on redevelopment properties including the low income facility and in Port Hope, ON known as The Tower Hotel.
Personal life
Mihkel had two children Hannah Rowan Harilaid (HRH) and Silas Harilaid with Amy Barrie. Among his many interests are diving, sustainable farming and horses.
Green Party Candidate
Mihkel was the Green Party Candidate in the 2008 and 2011 federal elections in Ajax-Pickering.
