He served as the ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Israel for seven years. He was the Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Moldova (December 15, 2009 - August 2010). In August 2010, Mihai Bălan was appointed as ambassador to Greece; Vlad Lupan replaced him as Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Moldova.^[3][4][5] He has two children: Dan Bălan and Sanda.
