The Middle States Council for the Social Studies was established in 1903.
It was the first established professional organization with the focus on social studies in the United States.
It develops standards, teaching resources and the like, for the field of social studies. State organizations, such as the Maryland social studies association are linked with the Council.[1] It has an apparent associated relationship with the National Council for the Social Studies.[2]
