Swift is a member of Galway club, Galwegians RFC, which he joined in 2000. Born in London to a Wexford father and a mother from Dublin, he started playing rugby in 1995. When his first club Richmond RFC fell victim to the new regime, he went to Leeds Tykes for a year, before his former coach John Kingston came calling from Galwegians in June 2000.
He is the most capped Connacht player of all time and is the longest serving player in the Connacht camp and has seen the province grow and flourish into the professional game.[citation needed]
