Recent[when?] DNA test results identified under the direction of the Innocence Project support his claim of innocence. Subsequently, Morton was released from a Texas prison on October 4, 2011 pending further review of his case by the court, as the new DNA evidence points to the crime being committed by another individual.[1]
The DNA profile of the unnamed male found at the Morton crime scene is also allegedly linked to a later murder in nearby Travis County.[by whom?] Prosecutorial misconduct of withholding evidence is suspected in the Michael Morton case.[by whom?]
