The song was made available on on July 24, 2009.

Background
"Mi Plan" was written by Nelly Furtado, James Bryan and Alex Cuba and produced by the former pair. It was recorded at the Rumblecone and Orange Studios in Toronto.[1] It was the first song Furtado tried working on before writing in Spanish.[2] Furtado and Bryan were trying to write the song in English but Furtado said she did not feel inspired.[3] Cuba suggesting that they write the lyrics in Spanish and he would then help translate the lyrics.[3] During the promotion of the album of the same name, "Mi Plan" was released as a promotional single along with "Más" and "Bajo Otra Luz".[4]
