History
Some twenty years after a nuclear war, only a few thousands of people survive in the metro. Life is far from being easy with the radiations, mutants and psychical abnormalities. It's in this surrounding that Artyom tries to save his station and for that he needs to find the city of "POLIS". Along his way he will meet many characters and events that will make him to mature and question his quest. Why is he the Chosen?
The book first appeared online in 2002 and has later become an interactive experiment, drawing in thousands of readers from around Russia. In 2005 it was printed by an established publisher and has become a nationwide bestseller.
By 2009, over 400,000 copies of Metro 2033 had been sold in Russia alone. Online readers are five times as numerous. Foreign book rights have been sold to more than 20 countries.
Awards
In 2007, Glukhovsky was awarded the Encouragement Award of the European Science Fiction Society in the Eurocon contest in Copenhagen for his novel Metro-2033.
Adaptations
A video game, Metro 2033, developed by 4A Games, was released worldwide in March 2010 for PC and Xbox 360 platforms. As of November 2010, Glukhovsky is in talks with Hollywood-based studios and producers to sell the film rights.
