1986–87 league participation

Mersin İdmanyurdu took place in Group B in Second League 1986–87 Season. League played in three groups two with 18 teams and one with 17. Bottom three teams in Group A with 17 teams and bottom four teams in groups with 18 teams relegated to Third League, whereas top teams promoted to First League at the end of the season^[1]. MİY finished 11th with 9 wins and 27 goals.

MİY has played first half-season games at away grounds, due to maintenance works at Tevfik Sırrı Gür Stadium.^[2]

5. ^ Above information was obtained from Milliyet gazete arşivi through an advanced search for Mersin İdmanyurdu and 1986-87 season. The Milliyet had issued the score of "Mersin İdmanyurdu-İzmirspor" game as "2-1" in favor of Mersin İY. However the true score was "2-1" in favor or İzmirspor. The game was played in İzmir due to repair works in Mersin's ground. This mistake had continued in league tables published in the paper. The Milliyet had later corrected the mistake in 17th round. The information in this article is corrected for 12th through 16th weeks for standings.
