Meril-Prothom Alo Awards is a famous award giving organization from Bangladesh. In the Meril-Prothom Alo Award Arrangements a lot of Bangladeshi Celebrities and Showbiz personnel is gathered in one roof. This is the most reliable and popular award giving venture and first in Bangladesh. The judges of Meril-Prothom alo Award Competition are really fair. There are two types of Awards are given to the winners. One kind of award is given on the basis of the Votes of the readers of Prothom Alo and another type of Awards are given on the basis of the judgment of the Critics. The Meril-Prothom Alo Awards have been often referred to as Bangladeshi film industry's equivalent of the Oscar.[1]

As of 2011, there are 16 awards. There is a separate category of awards, decided by noted film-critics and journalist rather than popular votes and the votes of Prothom Alo Readers. This dual format has also generated some controversy amongst viewers and recipients.
