Meltemi has been reported by a number of sources to be a Linux-based smartphone operating system designed by Nokia for low-cost mobile devices, to replace the Nokia Series 40 feature phone operating system.[1][2][3] It was announced in 2011, after Nokia's adoption of Windows Phone to replace Symbian, and the abandonment of the MeeGo project.[4]
