Melpeia (Μέλπεια) was a settlement in ancient Arcadia , situated in the present day prefecture of Messinia.
Mentioned by Pausanias, Melpeia is located near Lycosura in the Nomian mountains. The area around the settlement featured the temple of Pan. Its name derives from the nymph Melpeia' who followed Pan. It was part of Andania (Ανδανία), an area in ancient Arcadia along with Phigalia and Alipheira.
The exact location of the settlement has never been found. Today, a village with the same name situated in Messinia is divided into Kato Melpia and Ano Melpia.[1]
