Biography
She is the daughter of Dr. Marcelino Menéndez Trejo, a veterinary and Coco Vallejo Hinojosa, a teacher. Her family moved from Mexico City shortly after she was born, and moved to Tamaulipas, where they lived for 4 years, they then moved to Chihuahua. At the age of 6, she moved to Texas, United States where she learned English, and found an interest in rock music. After four years in Texas, she moved back to Mexico, to live in Querétaro, due to her father's work commitments. In this city she further developed her interest in rock music.
She began her career in the rock genre, with an underground band in Querétaro called "Hollow Mirror". The band lasted about a year and a half, during which she had the opportunity to record for the first time in a studio and share the stage with rock and metal bands such as Haragán and Cía. El Tri, Luzbel and Leprossy. After this, she started a project called 'Diablodiosa'. She then cowrote with the guitarist Jorge Luis Sierra, the first four songs of her first album Diablodiosa, she then wrote the remaining six songs alone. In the year 2003, she founded the rock band 'Cherrie' with guitarist and producer Eduardo "Gallo" Mendoza Quintana. The band lasted 5 years, and released 2 independent albums; Frutos Cósmico in 2003 and Hot Pink Camerino in 2007. She collaborated on the album Fuego Norte by the hiphop metal band Dragon Zaga in the song "Soy" written by Xuan Long and produced by Rafael "El Señor González" of 'Antídoto Records 2004' Cherrie tracks were included on compilations like Queretarock Volume 1 (2006), Indie Rocks (Mutante Records 2007) and Queretarock Volume 3 (2008). In December 2007 Melissa began to write songs with Gallo what would be her new solo project Melissa Munster. The genre of the music was named 'chicloso' (chewy - sticky) rock pop, by Melissa herself due to its sticky nature, since the lyrics and melody easily stick in the listener's memory. Melissa and Gallo composed, recorded and independently produced EP "Reinis" in 2008, and touring with her live show performance. The show contains live musicians who accompany her called "The Gato Negro Band"(the Black Cat Band). This same year they began a national tour of cities such as Mexico City, Monterrey, Querétaro, San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo, Texcoco, Irapuato and Celaya. On 20 December 2008 in the city of Leon, Guanajuato Melissa Munster and 'The Gato Negro Band', won first place in the "Rock con Estrella Contest" organized by Estrella Beer brand (By Grupo Modelo), beating 128 other Mexican bands.
