Md. Jan Higher Secondary School (Arabic: محمد جان هغير سكندري سكول) was founded in 1933 in Kolkata, India, by Janab Khan Bahadur Al-Haj Sheikh Md.Jan. The school was started with the name Calcutta Muslim High School at Ram Lochan Mallick Street,(Phal Mandi of Machua Bazar), Kolkata. After that it was shifted to its present address at 9B, Bolai Dutta Street, Kolkata -700073.
The school taught Persian, Urdu, English, and Bengali.
Calcutta Muslim High School was upgraded to Md. Jan High School and then to Md. Jan Higher Secondary School.

The early years
The school became affiliated to the West Bengal Board Of Secondary Education a year after its establishment. During World War II (1939–1945) the school building was acquired by the state government for civil defence purposes. When the government handed over the property to the school authority, Janab Sheikh Md.Jan restarted the school with the name Md. Jan High School. In 1964 Md. Jan High school was upgraded to Md. Jan Higher Secondary (Multipurpose) School with Science, Commerce and Arts stream.
In the same year Akher Hussain took charge as Headmaster, with S.A. Jabbar and Abdul Wahhab as Assistant Headmasters.
With the new pattern of the 10+2 introduced in 1976, the school received recognition from the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.
