McClintock Ridge

McClintock Ridge (82°3′S 161°0′E / 82.05°S 161°E / -82.05; 161) is a prominent east-west ridge that is ice covered, 6 nautical miles (11 km) north of Rubin Peak in Carnegie Range, Churchill Mountains. The ridge comprises several aligned summits that descend the east slope of the range for 7 nautical miles (13 km), ending at Algie Glacier. The west portion, near Mansergh Wall, rises to over 1400 m; elevations decline to 400 m near Algie Glacier. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Barbara McClintock (1902–92), Department of Genetics, Carnegie Institution, Cold Spring Harbor, NY, 1942–67, although she continued full-time research, supported by Carnegie, until her death; Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, 1983.
