Mayank Chhaya is a journalist and writer based in Chicago.[1][2][3] His career spans nearly 30 years with extensive reporting experience out of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the United States. He is a widely published commentator on South Asian and China-Tibet affairs. Since 1998 he has also been writing extensively about America in the wider international context.
While he continues to write commentaries and opinions for India's largest independent wire service, the Indo-Asian News Service (www.ians.in) Chhaya has turned a full-time writer. So far he has written two books, both biographies. The first one was on the life and times of Sam Pitroda, widely regarded as the father of India's information and communications revolution. It was published in 1992 and was a bestseller in India. His second book 'Dalai Lama: Man Monk Mystic', the only authorized biography of its kind about the Tibetan leader, was first published in 2007 by Doubleday, an imprint of Random House. The book has so far been published globally in 20 languages to high critical and commercial response.
Chhaya is currently involved in two books, one about the city of Ahmedabad, which is celebrating 600 years of its founding, and the other about nanotechnology. Both books are scheduled for release early in 2011. Additionally, Chhaya has also completed his first two novels, both expected to be out in 2012.
