Max Bolleman

Max Bolleman (born 1944, Venlo, Netherlands) is a Dutch jazz musician engineer & producer.[1]

Bolleman grew up in Amsterdam. At 15, he started playing drums. He played with a number of national and international jazz musicians, including Clark Terry, Cannonball Adderley, Bud Powell, Curtis Fuller, René Thomas, Clifford Jordan, Joe Farrell and Don Byas.

In 1983 he started a recording studio specialized in jazz music in Monster, Holland. At the same time he was working as an optician-optometrist.

Later on in 1986 Bolleman started a completely new recording studio named Studio 44 in Monster.[2] The same year he brought his profession as an optician-optometrist to an end. His studio became widely known.

In 1989 he received the "Export award" from the Dutch government because of the worldwide success.

He recorded over 1500 CDs from famous jazz musicians, including Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Joe Henderson, Chet Baker, Freddie Hubbard, Brad Mehldau, Wynton Marsalis, and Hank Jones.[3] In New York he recorded over 300 CDs for the Criss Cross Jazz label.[4][5]

After more than 25 years Bolleman brought his Studio 44 in Monster to an end. Nowadays he's still making recordings in his house in Belgium.

A wish to make a CD together with pianist Rob van den Broeck came true. The result can be heard on Fantasy Factory.
