Matthew Shultz Background information Born October 23, 1983 (age 28) Associated acts Cage the Elephant Matt Shultz is the lead singer for the American Alternative rock band, Cage The Elephant.[1] Matt also plays guitar on the bonus track "Cover Me Again" off of their self-titled album. He is known for his energy on stage, stage diving, and his strong lyrics.
Matt Shultz was raised in Bowling Green, Kentucky, along with high school friends and other band members, his brother Brad Shultz (guitar), Daniel Tichenor (bass, backing vocals), Lincoln Parish (lead guitar), and Jared Champion (drums, percussion).
In part due to their parents' religious views, Matt, Brad, and Daniel were largely unexposed to rock music until around age twelve[citation needed]. Shultz previously worked as a plumber and claims that a co-worker who was a drug-dealer justified his side job by saying, "there ain't no rest for the wicked."[citation needed] Shultz said he wrote the lyrics down on a piece of drywall for the first time, meaning that the first appearance of the lyrics to "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" are behind somebody's toilet in Bowling Green, Kentucky[citation needed]. Shultz also stated that he had addiction problems in the past with methadone, but has since cleaned up[citation needed].
