Marxdorfer Wolfshund

Marxdorfer Wolfshund

The Marxdorfer wolfdog originates - as the name suggests - from a small village called Marxdorf. This village is situated near Bad Liebenwerda in the region of Brandenburg in Germany. The breed has evolved from a crossbreeding between a Saarloos wolfdog and a white shepherd and resembles in its appearance not only of a wolf, but is also showing some wolf-like behavior patterns.

The Marxdorfer breeders Robert & Jeannette Rupp knew that the character of a Saarloos wolfdog would no be suitable for all working functions (such as the guide dog training) as for their shy and often very reserved manner. Due to a careful selection of character strengths they were able to consolidate not only the friendly character but also a more general openness of the dogs compared to the Saarloos wolfdog.

In general, the wolf heritage can be found back in all types of wolfdogs and is evident in their general shyness and a tendency to escape or showing aggressive behaviour in case that their flight distance is been undershoot. Marxdorfer wolfdogs though are socialized from a very early stage on and grow up within the family circle. With a lot of dog sense and love in their education process - this breed is very confident in its social behavior.

Nevertheless, it's is rather not a breed for beginners, because it needs an experienced dog lover who both knows about wolf and dog behavior, foster the dog in various ways, has time to spare and of course should also be interested in supporting the dogs need for movement in a sporty way.

The Marxdorfer wolfdogs are strong and arduos dogs which like to leave out their energy with long walks, at doggysports, bicycle tours or in playing with people and other dogs.

Young dogs are usually very gusty and can be stipulated very easily by using their curiosity and willingness to learn at that age. However we would like to point out as well, that it is a must to address their strong pack mentality in this early stage in an educational manner! A wolfdog does not like to be separated from his owners and if the worst comes to the worst, he may take out his frustration at your furnishing.

Because of the fact that the Marxdorfer wolfdog will gain his mental maturity not until he is 3 years old, you furthermore have to know that several adolescent phases are be expected. A thorough education is essential to prevent the continuing attempts of the dog to reach a higher rank in the pack. The clever animals can see through relationship structures and hierarchies in the family quickly and will try to use them for their own purposes. Particularly males dogs can have one or the other disagreement in terms of dominance with male family members, whereat this takes place exclusively in form of manipulative psychological tricks made up by the dog.

Yet, a characterful Marxdorfer wolfdog should also be awarded with a certain degree of autonomy. Under no circumstances should you restrict, suppress, reprimand or even raise a hand against him. A gentle, but psychologically consistent education allows him to develop.

A wolfdog which recognizes in his owner a calm and determined "pack leader" who is also radiating safety, will do absolute everything for him, because this equates to his wolf temper and means to him care, protection and guidance.

Wolfdogs are highly intelligent, their senses are sharper and their responsiveness is also generally faster than that of an ordinary dog. Things, which however appear unpleasant or pointless to him, can be refused with a surprising wealth of tricks.

The Marxdorfer wolfdog barks almost never because he has a much wider range of means of expressions and barking would be in some situations unnatural to him - some wolfdogs howl all the more expressive, if you for example leave the house by what the pack is separated.

The extraordinary intelligence, the strongly highlighted body language and the loyal nature of these dogs make them very special partners in your life!
