Marvin E. Newman is an American artist and photographer. Newman was born in 1927 and attended Brooklyn College where he studied sculpture and photography.
In 1948, Newman joined the Photo League:
"The Photo League founded in 1936, blazed a trail for serious photographers for 15 years, providing a forum for ideas, cheap darkroom space and the vision of using the art of picture taking to change the world." [1]
Newman studied with Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind at the Institute of Design,[2] Chicago beginning in 1949. He obtained an MS degrees in photography in 1952.
Newman has contributed to the following publications:

- Smithsonian.
The artist has authored or coauthored eight books on the subject of photography. He was awarded the Art Director's Gold Medal for Editorial Photography. He was at one time the national president of the American Society of Magazine Photographers.[1]
Marvin Newman has been nominated for a 2009 Lucie Award for Achievement in Sports Photography. The Lucies will take place at Lincoln Center, New York, NY in October 2009.
The artist currently lives and works in New York City.[1] His work is represented by Bruce Silverstein Gallery, New York, NY.
