Martin Fréminet

Martin Fréminet (1567, Paris – 1619, Paris), was a French painter.

Biography

According to the RKD he was a painter and engraver who is considered a member of the Second "School of Fontainebleau".^[1] He was the teacher of Toussaint Dubreuil who assisted him at Fontainebleau.^[1] Around the turn of the century he travelled to Italy where he was influenced by the works of Carravaggio and others. In 1603 he returned north, where until his death he assumed the position of premier peintre du Roi, or first painter to the King. Several of his ceiling decorations at the Palace of Fontainebleau survive.
