The airport used to have almost 23 flights a day to every major city in the Northeast,
Pittsburgh , andCleveland . It slimmed down in the 1980's, 1990's, and in 2004 cutting from 10 to 5 flights a day whenUS Airways cut flights toPittsburgh International Airport . As of October 1st, 2008, US Airways will cut 3 flights a day to the airport, leaving the area with 2 flights a day until October 23, 2008, which is when US Airways will pullout altogether only if a new airlines comes in, which happened to other airports much smaller than Williamsport, that were cut by US Airways.*

Knauff set an FAI world record flying aglider on an out-and-return course of 1646.68 km (1023 miles), releasing from tow over this airport, then flying along theAppalachian Mountains toCorryton, Tennessee , and returning for a landing 10 hours later. This world record stood for almost 20 years, and was only recenty broken in Argentina, but still stands as a U.S. national record.
