The Mark Zito Show

The Mark Zito Show originally started as a podcast on MarkZito.com. The show, called “Sound Bytes” and then “Mixtape” would feature music and interviews from up and coming artists.

College Radio, 2007-2009

In the Fall of 2007, the show was re-branded “The Mark Zito Show” and moved to WJPZ-FM where it would broadcast Noon to 3PM in the city of Syracuse. Zito and the management at “The Beat of Syracuse, Z89” didn’t see eye to eye. Zito holds the distinction of having one of the longest suspensions in station history before eventually being fired in the fall of 2008.[2]

After leaving Z89, Zito restarted “The Mark Zito Show” at campus television station, The Orange Television Network. It was there that the show expanded to a 3 night a week affair broadcasting from 10p to midnight Monday through Wednesday. The show’s topics started to get more in-depth and music started to take a backseat to talk on the program. It was common to hear 30 minutes of talk and 30 minutes of music per hour. Starting in September 2008, the show was syndicated live to college radio stations around the country. The Mark Zito Show was (and remains) the first and only college radio show to ever do this.[2]

In January 2009, the show added co-host Steve Granelli [3] and almost completely eliminated music from the program, instead focusing on talk.

Satellite Radio, Summer 2009

In May 2009, Zito was given the opportunity to do the show for an international audience of Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. The program started on July 4, 2009. The show, then called, Mark Zito’s College Radio on Satellite Radio, anchored Saturday Nights on Sirius/XM Stars Too. Zito was the youngest namesake of a talk show in the history of satellite radio.[4][5]

The show was marketed as a spin-off of popular Stars Too program, The Covino and Rich Show. Over the summer months numerous celebrities appeared including Ron and Fez, Matt Nathanson, and Julia Allison, whom Mark and his team had a run-in with on-air.

College Radio and Shovio.com, 2009-2010

Upon returning to Syracuse for his senior year, Zito once again syndicated the radio show, this time as a one-hour program Monday through Thursday. The Show also hosted a special live studio audience broadcast on December 7, 2009 where Zito shaved his head in support of children with cancer. Over $1000 was raised and musician Julian Velard played live.[6]

From January to May 2010, the show was carried by Shovio.com, a web service founded by "The Radio Chick" Leslie Gold.[7]

The Ron and Fez Show, 2011

Mark Zito is currently working as an acting producer for The Ron and Fez Show on Sirius XM's The Virus. His most notable on-air segments include conflicts with host Fez Whatley.

John Mayer Fandom

Zito is well known for his support of musician, John Mayer.[citation needed] Frequent bits on his shows have detailed his attempts to interview the singer, including a segment on his Sirius/XM show every week that counted down the "Weeks (He'd) Gone Without Talking To John."
