Bonelli, 1832Anisolabis maritima, commonly known as the Maritime earwig or the Seaside earwig, is a species of earwig in the genus Anisolabis, the family Anisolabididae, the suborder Forficulina, and the order Dermaptera.[1][2] Similar to the Seashore earwig, this species can be found near the shore line,[3] and is cosmopolitan. It can be found in almost all ecozones.[4]
It is approximately 2.5 cm (0.98 in) to 3 cm (1.2 in) long, and is a grayish or blackish in color.[3] Unlike many other species, it does not have any wings.[3] The insect preys on many different small invertebrates, including fleas, crickets, ants, small beetles, sowbugs, and even exhibits cannibalistic tendencies.[3]
