PoitouBurial Abbey of Foucarmont Religion Roman Catholicism Marie of Lusignan or Marie I de Lusignan (born c. 1223 in Melle; died in Poitou, October 1, 1260; buried at the Abbey of Foucarmont), was the only child and daughter of Raoul II of Lusignan and his second wife, Yolande de Dreux. She became Dame d'Issoudun, Countess of Eu and of Guinness in 1250.
She was married around 1249 to Alphonso of Brienne (Born c. 1225 – died of the plague in Carthage or Tunis, September, 1270, buried at the Abbey of St. Denis). Alphonse was Count of Eu by marriage; he was the son of Jean de Brienne and his third wife the Infanta Berengaria of Castile.
Marie and Alphonso had three children [1]:
- John I
- Alphonso. Never married. Buried in the Church of St Catherine's Priory in Paris.
- Blanche, Abbess of Maubuisson
