Marian Chandler (formerly Colby) is a fictional character on ABC's daytime drama All My Children. She has been portrayed by Jennifer Bassey from 1983 to 1985, briefly in 1989 and 1990, and from 1995 to 2003. She has made a handful of guest appearances since 2003, most notably for the wedding of Jesse and Angie Hubbard in May 2008 and the death of her husband Stuart in May 2009. She reprised the role on July 28, 2011 in scenes at Oak Haven with Erica Kane, Annie Chandler and Janet Dillon.

Storylines

Marian had a torrid affair with her teenaged daughter Liza Colby's boyfriend Tad Martin, causing a devastated Liza to leave town. After her husband Larry's heart attack, she had a fling with Zach Grayson, a two-bit con. When he was killed, Palmer Cortlandt's ex-wife Daisy was put on trial for the crime. It soon came to light that Marian was the murderer; due to the circumstances, she received a six-month sentence.

After her release from prison, she obtained a real estate license and tried again to seduce her former lover, Tad Martin. Upon Liza's return, their relationship remained tempestuous. Marian soon took up with the nefarious Dr. Jonathan Kinder, who romanced her out of her fortune. Soon after, she moved into the Chandler Mansion, determined to help her daughter with her divorce from Adam Chandler.

In an attempt to seduce Adam for the purpose of getting the dirt needed for Liza's pending divorce, Marian ended up doing the deed with a slumbering Stuart Chandler, Adam's identical twin brother. This incident later came out in court; after that, the two fell in love and had a theme wedding dressed as King and Queen of Hearts.

In May 2009, Stuart was murdered in a case of mistaken identity, leaving Marian devastated. Kendall Hart was arrested for the crime, and a deranged Marian attempts to shoot her at the courthouse. When Liza pushes Kendall out of harm's way Marissa Tasker is hit by the bullet. Marissa survives after emergency surgery, and Marian is committed to a psychiatric institution.

Marian, Janet Green, and Annie Chandler are all slated to break out of Oak Haven in July 2011 as a part of the plot involving the return (and escape) of Dixie Cooney Martin...which they enable. [1] Previous comments by both Alexander Cambius and Janet have alluded to the "fact" that Dixie did not actually die.
