Family
Maria was an elder sister of Charles II of Navarre and Blanche of Navarre, Queen of France. Her maternal grandparents were Louis X of France and his first wife Margaret of Burgundy, Queen of France. If women were allowed to inherit the Kingdom of France, then her mother would have inherited it on the death of her halfbrother, John I of France.
Maria's paternal grandparents were Louis d'Évreux and Margaret of Artois. Louis was a son of Philip III of France and his second wife, Maria of Brabant. Margaret of Artois was daughter of Philip of Artois and Blanche of Brittany. Blanche was daughter of John II, Duke of Brittany and Beatrice of England. Beatrice was daughter of Henry III of England and Eleanor of Provence.
Biography
In 1338, Maria married Peter IV of Aragon. Maria gave birth to her first child when she was only fourteen. Maria and Peter had four children:
- Constance, who married Frederick III of Sicily.
- Joanna (1344–1384) Married in 1372 to John, Count of Ampurias.
- Maria of Aragon (1341 – died young)
- Peter of Aragon (1347)
Maria died while giving birth to her youngest child, Peter of Aragon (who also died). Maria was only eighteen at the time of her death and her husband was still only twenty eight so he married three more times.
