Early life

Margus Reinsalu spent his early years in Kohtla-Järve, which was an industrial town in Estonia. In his childhood, Reinsalu was active in sports, loved to study and read. On leaving school he went to technical college, but with strong views that Estonia should be independent, despite high marks his path to university was politically blocked.[3]

In 1980 he became a construction engineer, and within 10 years—by this time married and with young family—he was the top manager. He and a colleague formed a construction company, and in 1991 with the Soviet grip loosening on Estonia, Margus—without capital—obtained a $210,000 bank loan "in one hour" after answering a newspaper advertisement seeking tenders and a business plan for privatisation of the state-owned taxi company.[3]

Reinsalu immediately formed a new company, got rid of old Volga taxis, purchased instead 300 new Opel Omegas and reduced the number of employees. In three years he managed to pay off bank loan. Later Reinsalu swapped his taxi company interests in order to take control of the construction firm. 1994 he founded KC Grupp as a real estate developer where he is still chairman but now mainly concentrating on global investments.[4]
