History

Marex Spectron was formed following the integration of Marex Financial and Spectron Group in May 2011.

MAREX Financial Limited was an independent derivatives and Foreign Exchange broker providing trading in commodities, financial futures, options and foreign exchange.[1]

The company was established in 2006 by the Marathon Special Opportunity Master Fund Limited and managed by Marathon Asset Management.

In February 2010, hedge fund JRJ Group took 74% stake in the business and brought in a number of former Lehman Brothers bankers onto its board to expand the business.[2][3]

In March 2011 Marex Group acquired Spectron Group Limited to become Marex Spectron.[4]

Operations

Marex Spectron trades in a number of areas, including Commodity Products (natural gas, metals, electricity, oil and oil products, freight, softs and agricultural products and emissions) and Financial Products (such as foreign exchange, financial futures and options, equities, fixed Income, equity futures and options, equity finance and event driven securities.)

Marex is a member of the Futures and Options Association and is regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
