- Brooklyn Army Terminal
The Brooklyn Army Terminal is large complex of
pier s, docks,warehouse s, cranes,rail siding s andcargo loading equipment on 95 acres between 53d and 66th Street inSunset Park, Brooklyn . During World War II, the terminal was responsible for shipment of 85% ofarmy equipment and personnel overseas. The building was sold to New York City in 1981 and was then totally renovated. It is now leased and managed by theNew York City Economic Development Corporation as a center for dozens of light manufacturing, warehousing and back-office businesses.The 39th Street pier of Brooklyn Army Terminal is also a stop for
New York Water Taxi services heading to the Financial District inManhattan or Roxbury inQueens during the rush hour and on summer weekends. The water taxi service at this location became very important during the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and the2005 New York City transit strike .See also
