Early years
Manoel Marques de Sousa (the third) was born on 13 June 1804 in Jesus-Maria-José fort,[1] nowadays Rio Grande, in the Rio Grande do Sul captaincy (province)[2] to Manuel Marques de Sousa (the second) and Senhorinha Inácia da Silveira.[3]
