Manuel Marques de Sousa, the Count of Porto Alegre (June 13, 1804 – July 18, 1875), was a Brazilian military officer, monarchist and politician.

Early years

Manoel Marques de Sousa (the third) was born on 13 June 1804 in Jesus-Maria-José fort,^[1] nowadays Rio Grande, in the Rio Grande do Sul captaincy (province)^[2] to Manuel Marques de Sousa (the second) and Senhorinha Inácia da Silveira.^[3]
